FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RGB Networks Expands Global Appeal of its Industry-Leading Digital Video
Processing Platform with Advanced Capabilities

Digital overlays, program substitution now added to the BNP’s list of innovative features

ANGA Cable Conference – COLOGNE, Germany – May 22, 2007RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, is expanding the global reach of its flagship Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) with the addition of advanced capabilities that will help cable television operators throughout Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas generate additional revenue and  meet local regulations.  Combining its unmatched ability to simultaneously process more than 500 video programs and through a simple software upgrade, the BNP platform now enables cable operators to more efficiently localize and target advertisements and to seamlessly and automatically switch between programs based on pre-determined schedules.  The latest version of the BNP’s operating software enables these applications which RGB will demonstrate at its stand (E14) at the ANGA Cable show.

“High-definition television (HDTV), video on demand (VOD), local advertising, switched digital video and other new services and architectures are taking off in Europe and our Broadcast Network Processor combines the performance and processing density to enable their deployment on a broad scale and at lower cost,” said Sara Hackforth, vice president for RGB Networks’ European, Middle East and African (EMEA) operations.  “The new capabilities and features of the BNP are the latest examples of RGB’s commitment to meeting the unique requirements of European cable operators.”

“Cable operators throughout Asia Pacific, like their counterparts worldwide, are migrating to all-digital networks to deliver increasingly personalized services to individual subscribers, and our BNP gives these operators the mix of capabilities and unrivaled processing density to accelerate a successful migration,” said Nick Hutton, RGB Networks’ Vice President of Sales, Asia Pacific.

The BNP’s new digital overlay capability allows cable operators to overlay text, graphics and even video directly on to their programming, enabling the customization of ads to make them more targeted to specific geographies.  This capability is particularly relevant in countries with regulations restricting ad insertion, the traditional method for actually replacing a nationally broadcast ad with a specifically developed local ad.  Cable operators can now overcome this by using the BNP’s digital overlay technology to customize ads with locally-relevant information, rather than actually replacing the ads.  Digital overlay can also be used to ‘brand’ programming via the addition of logos and to alert viewers to breaking news via the use of ‘text crawls’ in which text is scrolled across the television screen.

Complementing its new digital overlay capabilities, the BNP’s new program substitution feature allows operators to seamlessly switch between programs on a single output channel, which is particularly important in meeting national programming content rules which often limit the amount of foreign programming.  For example, a channel in the Netherlands airing a U.S. music video network from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. may be required to switch to Dutch programming during the prime time evening hours.  This capability is equally important for channels that play long-form infomercials or home shopping programs during the early morning hours, but need to switch to their regular programming for the remainder of the day.  The BNP switches programs using its advanced, seamless program insertion feature ensuring frame accurate switching to avoid clipping of the programming, as well as switching programs on a pre-determined schedule.

The latest version of the BNP’s operating software will be available at the end of May.  Once installed, customers can add the newest software features through RGB’s easy licensing procedure.  Thanks to the BNP’s unique programmability, upgrading existing BNPs can be accomplished in the field during scheduled downtime.

About RGB’s Broadcast Network Processor
Based on RGB’s Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA), the Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) is designed to enable cable operators to deliver highly targeted and personalized video services.  Housed in a one rack-unit platform, the BNP delivers the cable industry’s highest density solution for digital video grooming, statistical multiplexing, transrating, digital program insertion (DPI) and digital overlay.  With the ability to process more than 500 video streams in a single rack unit, the BNP significantly lowers the cost of delivering advanced digital video services, while creating new sources of revenue for operators. RGB’s Broadcast Network Processor offers the scalability to support current and future network growth, while also providing the flexibility to sustain new applications such as switched digital video, targeted ad insertion and digital simulcast.  The BNP also reduces the complexity and cost of deploying these services, allowing operators to focus on introducing more personalized, revenue-generating services.

About RGB Networks
