RGB Networks Recognized as Innovator in Broadband Gear Report’ s
Diamond Technology Reviews

Industry experts give top honors to two RGB products that help the cable industry offer
subscribers personalized content and video-on-demand services

SAN MATEO, CA – June 6, 2007 – RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, today announced that two of its products have received 4-Diamond ratings in the Broadband Gear Report’s (BGR) prestigious “2007 Diamond Technology Reviews,” which recognize achievements in product innovation for the cable television industry.  RGB’s flagship Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) and recently launched Universal Scalable Modulator (USM) received their high ratings from BGR’s panel of five senior engineering executives from some of the largest cable operators in North America.  BGR will formally announce all the results of the Diamond Technology Reviews at the upcoming Cable-Tec Expo, June 19-20 in Orlando, Florida.

Cable operators are evolving their networks to provide ever more personalized content – both programming and advertising – delivered on-demand and tailored specifically for individual subscribers.  Accomplishing this feat requires significantly more processing of individual video streams, which must be done on a massive scale and in real-time.  Recognizing this need, RGB developed the BNP and USM with unmatched video processing capabilities.

“The 4-Diamond rating our Broadcast Network Processor and Universal Scalable Modulator have earned is validation of RGB’s approach from the cable operators that stream processing is key to achieving their goal of on-demand, personalized services,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing for RGB Networks.  “RGB envisions cable and telco-delivered television evolving into a truly personalized service, enjoyed by viewers anytime and anywhere.  As the industry moves away from analog ‘one size fits all’ content delivery, RGB intends to play a key role in its transformation with our BNP, USM and other products.”

“Both RGB’s Broadcast Network Processor and Universal Scalable Modulator received very high scores from our stellar panel of broadband cable engineering experts,” Laura Hamilton, editor-in-chief at Broadband Gear Report, says. “They called the BNP, ‘compact, flexible and powerful’ and ‘a great addition to any digital network.’ As for the USM, one of our judges said it was a ‘well thought out box overall,’ and was impressed by its ability to get 128-QAM channels out of a 1RU chassis, as well as the 10 gigabit Ethernet interface.”

The BNP and USM are key members of RGB’s Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA) family of video processing solutions.  Each product can process significantly more video streams than competitive offerings, which significantly reduces the cost of delivering advanced, personalized services.  RGB has to date shipped more than 1,500 of its video processors, including the BNP, the USM, the Simulcast Edge Processor (SEP) and the Modular Media Converter (MMC).

The core of RGB’s VIA family is the BNP.  Capable of processing more than 500 video streams, the BNP powers several key digital video applications, including advertising insertion, the grooming of custom channel line-ups and the rate shaping of programming to maximize bandwidth.  It also supports new applications such as switched digital video, targeted ad insertion and digital simulcast.

Complementing the BNP is RGB’s USM, the cable industry’s most advanced quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulator.  QAMs are a key component of cable networks and the USM’s ability to support up to 128 6 MHz QAM channels (or 96 8 MHz channels) and multiplex up to 1280 digital programs is unmatched.  The USM helps operators migrate smoothly to next-generation digital video architectures, such as video-on-demand (VOD), switched digital video, and modular cable modem termination systems (M-CMTS), enabling the delivery of personalized, addressable, on-demand video services.
