RGB NETWORKS ANNOUNCES CABLE INDUSTRY’S HIGHEST DENSITY
SOLUTION FOR ASI-TO-GIGABIT ETHERNET CONVERSION

RGB’s Modular Media Converter Facilitates the Transition to Gigabit Networks

SAN MATEO, CA – October 10, 2006 – Network video processing leader RGB Networks today announced the availability of its newest product, the Modular Media Converter (MMC). An ideal solution for environments with existing ASI interfaces, the MMC supports routing and conversion of any ASI input to any Gigabit Ethernet output port, facilitating cable operators’ transition to Gigabit Ethernet networks. The MMC also supports routing and conversion of Gigabit Ethernet inputs to ASI outputs.

Cable networks are rapidly transitioning to IP transport over Gigabit Ethernet, however until the transition is complete, there is still legacy ASI-based equipment that must integrate with Gigabit Ethernet-based equipment, necessitating a product that performs a conversion function. The flexible, one-rack-unit MMC accepts any standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD) MPEG-2 transport streams carrying MPEG-2, MPEG-4/H.264 or VC-1 compressed programs, and supports up to 24 ASI ports using four ASI modules and up to eight Gigabit Ethernet ports.

“RGB has once again applied our modular and flexible Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA) to a new product, giving the MMC the scalability to grow with an operator’s changing needs,” said Ramin Farassat, Vice President, Product Marketing at RGB Networks. “The flexible, high density MMC helps cable operators to expedite deployments of advanced video services over IP, simplify operations, and reduce operational and capital costs.”

The MMC is currently available in North America.
