ADELPHIA SELECTS RGB NETWORKS
FOR DIGITAL SIMULCAST
DEPLOYMENTS
RGB Simulcast Edge Processor Simplifies Cable Operators’ Transition to All-Digital
SAN MATEO, CA – January 10, 2006 – RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, today announced that Adelphia Communications Corporation (OTC: ADELQ), the fifth largest cable operator in the United States, has selected RGB’s Simulcast Edge Processor (SEP) as part of Adelphia’s digital simulcast rollout to perform integrated decoding, modulation and upconversion.
With RGB’s Simulcast Edge Processor serving the needs of existing analog subscribers, Adelphia’s digital subscribers will be able to receive one hundred percent of their channels in digital, allowing Adelphia to make the conversion to lower cost digital set-top boxes, offer targeted services such as zoned ad insertion, and deliver additional revenue-generating digital services. RGB’s edge processor simplifies the transition to all digital by providing a complete edge decoding and modulation solution in a one rack unit device. The SEP saves considerable rack space over alternative solutions, and the upgradeable platform can be re-purposed when the eventual move to all-digital is complete.
“We’re proud to announce Adelphia’s selection of RGB’s Simulcast Edge Processor for their digital simulcast deployments, making them the first MSO to complete testing and integration of our solution into their network architecture,” said Adam S. Tom, president and CEO of RGB Networks. “This early endorsement by a top MSO and their successful initial deployment of our SEP demonstrate the strength of our underlying Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA) and its ability to deliver high-density solutions that simplify deployments and help operators like Adelphia to save time and money.”
About
the Simulcast Edge Processor
The RGB Simulcast Edge Processor is the cable industry’s first
complete solution for digital simulcast edge decoding applications,
providing the capability to simultaneously receive multiple MPEG-2
digital video streams over Internet Protocol (IP), decode the video
streams, modulate and up-convert them, and deliver the streams directly
to subscribers as NTSC analog video at the edge of the network. The
SEP is unique in that it combines all of the necessary processing
required to accept digital video streams and deliver them directly
as modulated analog NTSC video for distribution to customers’ homes
in a single one rack unit platform. With the SEP, cable operators
can deliver a full digital line-up to digital subscribers, simplify
operations, save bandwidth and pave the way to a fully digital
network, while still supporting existing analog customers.
About RGB Networks
RGB Networks delivers powerful, open-protocol video processing
and bandwidth management solutions that enable video service providers
to route, switch, process and distribute video streams at dramatically
higher densities and data rates than today's equipment, and at considerably
lower costs. Based on its unique Video Intelligence Architecture™ (VIA),
RGB’s products process multiple advanced video applications
on a single programmable, high-performance platform, enabling video
service providers to build flexible, adaptable, next-generation
networks that leverage existing infrastructure. RGB’s solutions
improve the economics of today’s video offerings while providing
a foundation for delivering advanced, revenue-generating services
in the future.
