Pembroke Telephone Selects RGB Networks for IPTV Network Upgrade
Modular Media Converter is First RGB Product to be Deployed by Rural Telco
SUNNYVALE, CA – November 11, 2008 – RGB Networks, the leader in network video processing, today announced that its Modular Media Converter (MMC) has been deployed by Pembroke Telephone Company for its innovative PAC-TV television service, which is based on Internet Protocol (IP). Pembroke is using the MMC to deliver local broadcast TV channels over its telecom network to subscribers in North Bryan County Georgia.
“Using RGB’s MMC has helped us keep our costs down as we’ve upgraded and expanded our IP-based PAC-TV service, enabling us to offer a superior IPTV service while maintaining our investment in much of our current equipment,” said Paul Boyette, Product Development Manager for Pembroke Telephone Company. “We’ve had a great experience working with RGB as we seek to deliver more advanced IPTV services to our customers.”
At Pembroke’s central headend, off-air receivers take in the locally-broadcast channels via antenna and then output the programming to the MMC. The MMC then converts the video from ASI to Gigabit Ethernet so it can be transported throughout the core of Pembroke’s network. By performing this ASI-to-Gigabit Ethernet conversion, the MMC enables Pembroke to continue using its existing off-air receivers, rather than replacing them. This simple, straightforward and cost-effective solution enables Pembroke to focus its efforts and spending on taking full advantage of the efficiency of Gigabit Ethernet transport in its network.
As telecommunications networks continue transitioning to IP transport over Gigabit Ethernet, using existing ASI-based equipment with Gigabit Ethernet-based equipment has become an issue. RGB’s MMC enables customers to maintain their existing ASI-based equipment by converting the ASI stream to an IP format that can be easily delivered over a Gigabit Ethernet network. Instead of purchasing an entirely new line of equipment, service providers need only purchase the MMC to deliver the latest in advanced video.
“Pembroke’s decision to deliver IPTV is further proof of their dedication to providing video services with the highest quality,” said Lou Mastrocola, Vice President of Sales for RGB. “The success Pembroke has had with the MMC is an excellent example of the perfect fit RGB’s comprehensive solution set offers telecom customers and we are eager to continue helping Pembroke deliver more advanced IPTV services in the future.”
Advanced Media Technologies (AMT), a major reseller of RGB’s products, also played a significant role in this deployment with Pembroke.
