As a long-time leader in digital ad insertion, RGB Networks delivers not only the basic local ad insertion capabilities that have become a mainstay for cable operators, but we continue to innovate, offering service providers the advanced advertising capabilities required to monetize their video service across not just one, but multiple screens, including TVs, PCs, tablets and mobile devices.
RGB offers two high-density, multi-function product families that help operators to generate advertising revenue—the compact Broadcast Network Processor (BNP) family and the carrier-class Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG™)—both delivering the processing power and scalability to meet the demands of today's rapidly changing advertising environment.
RGB's products are fully compliant with SCTE 30 and SCTE 35 standards and interoperable with the leading digital program insertion (DPI) ad servers. They also perform SCTE 30-to-SCTE 35 conversion to support digital ad insertion at the regional hub, making them well-suited for both centralized and distributed ad insertion architectures. They also perform extremely well in zoned, micro-zoned and targeted ad insertion applications.
As operators around the world accelerate the rollout of TV Everywhere multiscreen services, the investment in new infrastructure calls out for a new revenue source to off-set costs. This requirement is even more imperative in light of the fact that early business models for delivering video to desktop and mobile devices are currently foregoing subscription fees to help drive consumer adoption.
Adaptive Bitrate Streaming Ad Insertion
In order to monetize premium video services over new protocols, a new standards-based video ad insertion infrastructure is required. Leveraging years of ad insertion expertise, RGB is at the forefront of bringing this new ecosystem to the market.
RGB’s Ad Insertion for Multiscreen (AIM) solution utilizes advanced ABR streaming to facilitate hyper-targeted advertising down to the neighborhood, device or even specific individual subscriber demographics. The standards-based AIM integrates with ad decision systems (ADS) to create an end-to-end solution for the scalable delivery of addressable ads across multiple screens.

In addition to spot ad splicing, operators can use digital overlays, offered today on the BNP, to insert local advertising promotions within national broadcast programs and commercials. National advertisers and network operators can take advantage of static graphics and text to promote different products in different cities, neighborhoods or other defined ad zones. Digital overlays can also be used to prompt viewers of linear, broadcast programming to initiate on-demand interactive sessions for specific product information.
With support for the SCTE’s new 130 standard, the BNP can directly enable a mixture of real-time ad management services, such as those required for ad splicing and digital overlay insertion. SCTE 130 has been designed from the start to support the potential to unify content scheduling and management across linear, on-demand and interactive sessions.Digital overlays offer much promise to operators as they seek to serve their subscribers better, generate more advertising and step beyond the traditional 30-second spot ad commercial.
