IPTV / Video-over-IP Delivery

As traditional telecommunications providers rapidly move into the business of delivering video services they require a video processing partner that can provide the video expertise that can only come from years of hands-on experience.

RGB Networks not only understands video processing, but we also understand the challenges -- technological, architectural and economical -- that are faced by telcos as they begin to transform their infrastructure to deliver video services. RGB's Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG) has been designed from the ground up to specifically address the issues faced in the telecom network environment.

In an IPTV network, RGB's VMG provides a platform for very high density, scalable, unified video processing. It accommodates both broadcast and on-demand video from multiple sources and consisting of varying formats, resolutions and multiplex groups. The VMG processes the video content in real time, making it suitable for transport across various wireline and wireless networks with varying bandwidth constraints. It also allows for delivery to various types of end-user video display devices. The VMG does all of this while maintaining the highest video quality-of-experience (QoE).

Integrated Video Processing Platform for Telco Networks

Maximizing Revenue Potential with MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 Advanced Processing

At the heart of the VMG is an unparalleled, high capacity MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 video processing engine. In combination with its IP multicast and unicast smarts, the VMG provides a multitude of advanced video processing features in a single chassis, including video grooming for creating customized channel line ups, re-multiplexing of channels, transrating and quality-of-service (QoS).

The VMG's high density transrating functionality enable operators to deliver SD or HD content from various sources to a large number of subscribers in their network which otherwise may not be serviceable due to bandwidth limitations, the type of set-top box or video decoder-imposed constraint, thereby maximizing the IPTV revenue potential at the lowest cost of ownership.

MPEG-4/H.264 and MPEG-2 Targeted Ad Insertion

In order to off-set the cost of deploying new video delivery systems, IPTV network operators often require a new revenue stream. The VMG's ability to enable targeted advertising makes it an ideal solution in a highly competitive video marketplace. With the VMG's support for both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 ad insertion, telecom operators, for the first time, have an integrated targeted ad insertion solution together with best-of-breed advanced video processing functionality that can unlock the IPTV advertising revenue opportunity.

The VMG is fully compliant with SCTE 30 and SCTE 35 standards and is interoperable with leading ad servers. The VMG is ideally suited for both ad insertion systems centrally located at the VHO/headend facility for regional ad insertion, as well as for implementing zone-based or subscriber-based targeted advertising at the VSO level.

Advanced Architecture for Ad Insertion and Content Repurposing

High-density Switching and Aggregation

Carriers must aggregate a large amount of content and the VMG allows them to do this easily, while dramatically lowering the cost of aggregation through RGB's proven Video Intelligence ArchitectureTM (VIA), which allows for processing substantially more video programs than competitive products. The VMG has a high switching capacity and supports varying types of I/0 interfaces, including ASI, 10GigE and 1GigE and ASI-to-GigE conversion.
